TomTom’s enhanced Map Share service aims to help drivers in the London area void travel disruptions. A new map task force processes map changes related to temporary road closures, changes in traffic flow and additional turn restrictions in real-time. TomTom map experts will process map changes in and around London throughout the Summer sporting season. TomTom customers can take advantage of special daily map features in the coming weeks that will highlight changes drivers are likely to encounter in and around the London Metropolitan Area including blocked roads, new traffic directions, altered turn restrictions and new points of interest.
Working with key stakeholders to capture and share most road changes, TomTom’s map experts predict that July 28th will be the most disrupted travel day, when over 9000 road changes in London will be introduced. August 1st may be the second most challenging when more than 3000 changes will be made.
Map Share’s social feature also allows users to accept changes submitted by some, or many, other Map Share customers, or only those verified by TomTom during the coming weeks. After 6pm each day, TomTom customers can download road changes for the following day to their navigation device and reset any changes no longer needed from the previous day at no cost. Tom Brown, TomTom’s UK Country Manager explains what the timeliness of these updates means to customers:
“We released our latest map update in May, which included structural road changes in London and surrounding areas and points of interest relevant to the summer. Now we are going one step further. We want to ensure that our customers drive with the most up to date map available, taking into account the dynamic road changes resulting from upcoming events in the capital. Our aim is to do all we can to give London drivers the best navigation experience possible.”
