Coming up tomorrow the Posidonia 2022 expo will reveal the unbreakable connection between Greek culture and the sea. Set to open June 6th – June 10th at the Athens Metropolitan Expo, the exhibition will feature more than 1,900 exhibitors from 88 countries.
The cultural aspects of the larger exhibition will take place inside the Greek Culture Ministry’s stand at the expo, with the purpose of showcasing the influence seafaring and geography have had on Greece’s development. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni was quoted by GTP saying:
“From the Ionian to the coasts of Asia Minor, the Greek seas contributed to the transportation of goods from one continent to another. They were a source of inspiration and creativity, shaping and developing culture. This culture has established and inspired the culture of Europe.”
This facet of the larger Posidonia 2022 expo will have three sections, as follows:
- There will be a presentation of photos from amateur and professional shots during research work conducted by the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities on shipwrecks found in Greece.
- A second photo exhibition from Greek archives will further illustrate the intimate connection between the Sea and Greece’s cultural development.
- The third section will be a display of publications about this connection of culture and the sea, as well as exact copies of ancient works that highlight the relationship between humans, the sea, and shipping.
Of particular importance, will be the section dedicated to the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Culture Ministry will also present a magnificent replica of a bronze statue found back in the 1920s, that probably is thought to be either Poseidon or Zeus.
