European Best Destination 2013 has named Istanbul, Turkey this year’s people’s choice winner. Istanbul is the fourth city to win the competition, and on the city’s first ever entry into the competition.

Istanbul Sees a Rise in Number of Tourists in 2013
In the first two months of this year, Istanbul got more visitors than in the same period of time in the previous year. However, Antalya had a smaller number of tourists than in 2012.
Turkey to Build World’s Biggest Mega Airport
According to the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Shipping and Communications, the total number of airports inside Turkey will grow to 56, including the massive plans for a mega facility targeted for Istanbul 2020. The third Istanbul project in the North of the city will reportedly accommodate 150 million passengers a year. The projected cost of that facility is some €7 billion euro.
Turkey to Launch 69 New Tourism Areas
