Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and local stakeholders have been discussing improving and modernizing the port and marina infrastructure on the beautiful Ionian islands of Meganissi and Lefkada lately. These important initiatives are meant to improve the islands’ offerings and attract discriminating tourists looking for opulent marine experiences.
Lefkas Marina Today
Reputably one of the most modern marinas in the Mediterranean, the Lefkas Marina has been a shining example of quality since its founding in 2002. Six hundred twenty berths for vessels up to 45 meters in length offer excellent capacity in this cutting-edge facility, demonstrating the region’s dedication to providing top-notch marine services. Across a vast 70,000 square metre beachfront, the marina offers a range of facilities and services catered to the most discriminating sailors.
With offices that rent boats, cars, and motorcycles, necessary services like surgery, a port police station, laundry facilities, and a lively retail centre with a supermarket, cafés, and restaurants, the marina offers an unmatched experience. Enjoying the stunning views of the sparkling boats and the charming village of Lefkas, visitors may indulge in retail therapy or taste fine dining.
The marina also has a hotel and a convention centre, so visitors can easily combine work and play. Technical boat services abound and include dry dock space for up to 278 boats, travel lifts (capable of lifting vessels from short, heavy tugs to superyachts) weighing 150 and 70 tons, a mobile crane weighing 60 tons, and covered shelters for boat storage.
Minister Kefalogianni’s to the Ionian Islands
Minister Kefalogianni’s recent visit to the 620-berth Lefkas Marina, which has received funds for improvements from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), demonstrates the government’s dedication to improving the region’s marine infrastructure. Assuming filing approval, the project will further enhance the marina’s services and establish it as a top choice for boaters.
The minister’s schedule also included talks on expediting the construction of a marina at Vlicho and a visit to Nydri, where a 90-berth marina was just finished under the Interreg VI-A Greece-Italy programme. On the schedule also were Meganissi, which has asked to have a small marina built for recreational boats and Paliaros on the mainland, with talks centred on the potential for an air connection from Aktion airport to Athens Airport and installing a marina.
As Minister Kefalogianni so beautifully put it, the main goal of this visit was to interact with local stakeholders, discuss issues, and develop solutions that will promote employment creation, increase income, and promote growth for the islanders. By investing in contemporary marina infrastructure, the Ionian islands will improve their tourist offerings and draw discriminating tourists from all over the world, securing their place as a top marine destination.
