With most people already planning for their 2020 vacations, now seems to be about the right time to start previewing Greece and Crete vacation choices. Today, we decided to focus on one of the most popular destinations of Crete island, the picture-postcard perfect Agia Pelagia, which is one of Greece’s most amazing seaside communities. Here’s a brief introduction to the best places to stay at this tiny village on the Cretan Sea.
Agia Pelagia (Santa Pelagia) is located 21km west of Heraklion, on the south side of the small Cape Souda, surrounded by several coves with stunning beaches. Once a picturesque settlement used by the residents of Achlada village for growing their crops; the village of today is a bustling tourist resort with many hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, internet cafés, and the rest of the resort suspects you’d expect. What makes this area most appealing is the nature of the circular bay that fronts the village and the amphitheater-like surroundings. The surf here is so calm, clear, and appealing, it simply beacons you as a siren would. It’s irresistible, to tell the truth. Many of the accommodation choices here whisper the same provocative welcome.
Best Airbnb Rental
For our money, the By the Sea beachfront luxury apartment by SuperHost Efi is a no brainer if you want a place and time you’ll never forget on unforgettable Crete. The 70 m² space sits overlooking everything that matters on Agia Pelagia Bay. You get a cozy but luxurious apartment, plus a 60m² balcony-pergola 60m² a hop and a jump from the crystal clear aquamarine treasure that’s made the village famous. With accommodations for as many as 4, the rental sits in one of the most privileged spots anywhere. The apartment goes for about €169 euro per night in high season, and it’s well worth the price if you know anything about Agia Pelagia. Hint: Book quickly, May and June are almost booked solid already.
All-Inclusive Midrange
Situated just off the beaches overlooking the Cretan Sea, the Blue Bay Resort Hotel is a great choice for families who want luxury and an amazing location at a moderate price. Everything included for €152 euro per night is a stupendous deal, but readers can do a little better by joining the resort’s exclusive club here on their website. Like we said, due to the terrain of the area around Agia Pelagia, Blue Bay offers amazing views of the Cretan Sea plus all the amenities you’d expect – pools, 4 season spa, pool bars, restaurants, and etc. Hint: Check out the wonderful Psaromoura Beach adjacent to the resort, it’s super popular with the locals.
Pampering By the Sea
If you’re looking for legitimate world-class luxury on the beach in Agia Pelagia, Out Of The Blue Capsis Elite Resort is the choice. Situated on the point of Agia Pelagia Bay, the resort is like something out of a James Bond flick, with basically every luxurious amenity you can name, only with a stunning view. Stays here do not come cheap, but given the circumstances, how could they be? The resort has an unparalleled wellness aspect, bungalows, and villas fit for movie stars and singing celebrities, a watersport center, lavish pools, and dining experiences, kids clubs and activities, and much more. Expect to pay €400 euro plus per night if you have two kids. This includes breakfast. Hint: This really is an amazing resort, so if you’re fixed to afford it, we recommend you snap up a reservation fast, bookings are hot for Crete 2020.
Luxurious Self-Catered
Agia Pelagia is one of those places where that all-inclusive resort vibe loses some appeal. The reason for this is there’s a host of traditional taverns and cafes lining the beautiful beach. SeaScape Luxury Residences is far and away – the best self-catering stay not only in Agia Pelagia but on Crete overall. In about as many steps as it takes to visit a resort restaurant, you can be sitting on a stunning bay where every day is perfect, and the cuisine is equally ideal. Seriously, the two pools, fantastic pool bar, and the chic here are unrivaled. If you book now, rates for the pool view apartments are as low as €133 per night. There’s also a members club here too, so check the website for details. Hint: SeaScape is the highest rated stay in Agia Pelagia on Booking.com and most other third party sites. Book quickly.
Home Away in Agia Pelagia
For those in search of a traditional Crete 2020 island getaway, you can get a nostalgic experience staying at the Evita Apartments on the hillside overlooking the Agia Pelagia beaches. Interestingly, the old school apartments are the second highest-rated stay experience in the area too. For about €50 per night in high season, this is also one of the most affordable vacation stays in Agia Pelagia too. You can book from the Booking.com website here, or through the various online travel agencies. You don’t get the spa, the pool, or the gourmet cuisine, but don’t worry, amazing Psaromoura Beach is a few steps from your door. Hint: Check out nearby Mononaftis Beach, it’s a wonder as well.
