The government of the Balearic Islands is saying; “enough is enough” when it comes to cracking down on sex and alcohol tourism. A new ad campaign pushed in the British press claims those islands no longer want the rough and rowdy rep of sexual misconduct and drinking accolades that discolor the beautiful paradise there.
Balearics’ tourism councillor Jaime Martinez, says the campaign is already spreading on social media sites and will be spread through the tabloid press soon. Martinez also announced a special parnership with the World Travel Market coming in November. The goal, to embrace contacts in international tourism as allies, is designed to gain visibility for the Balearics’ redone image. Ibiza, Mallorca, and the other Balearic Islands, are all in on the initiative to make for the region being a more attractive holiday destination for families and other segments.
Just last month news Spain intends on reining in booze and sex hotspots hit the wires. Magaluf, one destination, is one of those places where cheap booze and free sex are a notorious portent to attract the burgeoning student population of Europe headed out for good times by the seaside. Also last month, Martinez told reporters “companies promoting certain types of activities are not welcome in the Balearics.” The tourism official singled out bar crawl agencies and similar companies that tend to be predatory and promote a bad rep for destinations there.
Spain is not the only destination plagued by the negative karma wild vacationers instigate. Cancun to Crete locals detest the drunken and careless abandon with which partying tourists treat those idealize places.
