Pano Platres – or simply Platres as the locals call it – is a “Greek village” full of charm on the southern slopes of the Troödos Mountains. And with a motto like “In Platres, the nightingales will not let you sleep,” the village can also pass as an ideal place to rekindle romance. Once a destination for oenophiles, the Cypriot mountainous community is also a choice for active travelers, who will find here the Sparti Platres Rope Adventure Park to keep in shape, among nature trails and other outdoor recreational opportunities, including the Platres Athletic Sports Center, which offers football courts, basketball and tennis fields, volleyball and handball facilities, a bicycle center, as well as fitness and Spa facilities.
Although growing grapes is no longer the favorite agricultural occupation of the locals, the wines from the region are still favored by connoisseurs. For example, the Lambouri Winery in Kato Platres has a tradition of over 300 years producing exclusive Cypriot wines. They offer winery and vineyard tours, Lambouri wine tastings and sales. Their wines are exclusively produced from local grape varieties.
Nature lovers will enjoy Pano Platres for its picturesque setting, but also for the wonders that are within easy rich. For instance, the Millomeris Waterfall on the Millomeris Nature Trail, a scenic spot, which is also easy to reach by car. Although the Kalidonia Waterfall in the same region is considered the tallest in Cyprus, Millomeris is more towering, with water falling from a height of 15 meters.
You don’t have to leave the village to find the Sparti Platres Rope Adventure Park, the first-ever rope adventure forest park in Cyprus. Here you will find attractions for all ages, including lines for children aged 2 to 5. They also have special lines for older children and teens, and fast zip lines for adults. They are only open on Sundays and public holidays, so you have to plan your visit carefully. They have over 80 different “games” to try, providing safe conditions, with secure gear.
