Maribor Kicks Off European Capital of Culture Party

Out with the old, in with the new – with the dawn of the new year now fully upon us, it’s once again time for Europe to hand over one of its most prestigious awards. This month sees the title of Europe’s “Capital of Culture” handed over to not one, but two cities – the Slovakian capital of Maribor and the northern city of Guimarães, in Portugal.

A few days ago we covered the upcoming Maribor 2012 and its place as one of the towns chosen to be the European Capital of Culture next year. In keeping with Argo Travel’s image and media focused core value, we contacted the Slovenia Tourism Board about more images. Their PR exec Jasmina Godec graciously responded with the FTP for their best images.

In news from Slovenia’s Tourism Board, the town of Maribor, in cooperation with other municipalities, are all set for an exuberant opening weekend as the European Capital of Culture, January 14th and 15th, 2012. Slovenia was recently honored at the World Travel Market in London as well.
