- Total Budget: €3,000,000
- Initiative: Four proposals were submitted for funding to improve rural roads.
- Locations: Agricultural and pastoral routes in Amari.
- Focus: Accessibility for farmers, herders, and visitors.
- Objective: Support local economy and tourism growth.
Last week, Amari’s Technical Services Department stepped into action, submitting four funding proposals worth €3,000,000. Their goal? To untangle the maze of difficult rural roads and bring smooth accessibility to agricultural lands and pastoral areas.
Here’s what the proposals cover:
- Project 1: Smoothing out access between the municipal road “Vistagi-Platania” (altitude: 530m) and the “Tsikalas” area (altitude: 1,100m) along Road A. Budget: €1,000,000.
- Project 2: Improving the route to the Agios Antonios Monastery in Voleones and Pantanassa via “Veni”. Budget: €1,000,000.
- Project 3: Upgrading the road linking Agia Fotini and “Marokenas” in the Apostoli community, starting from the Health Centre area. Budget: €500,000.
- Project 4: Enhancing road access in the Platanos community (“Agios Rafael” to “Katsara”) and the Fourfouras municipal area near the Cultural Centre and local stadium. Budget: €500,000.
Let’s admit it – getting up those rugged hills to admire the stunning Psiloritis mountain or reach those remote farms is not for the faint-hearted. With some clever planning and a dash of hope, these proposals will fix that.

This ambitious push taps into the Ministry of Rural Development and Food’s financial invitation under the “Improvement of Access to Agricultural Land and Livestock Facilities” programme. They shot their shot and maxed out the available funding limit. Fingers crossed, right?
Why it Matters: Boosting Local Life
These roads matter to farmers, herders, and even those Instagram-loving visitors trying to get the perfect mountain shot. The upgrades aren’t just about fixing potholes but about keeping Amari connected, functional, and future-ready.
The Mayor of Amari, Pantelis Mourtzanos highlighted the importance of good planning and quick action. Years of groundwork came into play, so when the funding opportunity opened, they were ready to pounce—no waiting, no dithering – proposals prepared, submitted and all tied up with a budget bow.
Looking Ahead: Roads with a Prize
Securing approval for these projects isn’t just about smoother commutes. It’s part of a larger picture, strengthening the local economy and making Amari more attractive to visitors. Tourism and agriculture here are a bit like the town’s lifeblood, and every step towards easier access strengthens that pulse.
Mayor Mourtzanos remains optimistic, thanks to recent meetings in Athens with Ministry officials and local political representatives. If the proposals pass, he promises more improvements are already on the drawing board.
