For lovers of good food, there’s nothing better than a trip to Istria in the Fall, especially during the Truffle Days festival, which this year started September 9, and will last till November 3. You still have time to enjoy typical local truffle dishes: fuži, pljukanci, gnocchi, and fritada.
October is the top season of the white truffles, the most expensive and valuable in the region. They grow especially in the valley of the river Mirna and in the Motovun Forest. The best places to enjoy the local delicacy are Buzet, Motovun, Livade.
The traditional Weekend of Istrian truffles in Buzet will be held in the first Saturday and Sunday of November. It features promotions, tasting and sales, culinary shows, music, children’s corner, treasure hunt, cookery classes and even a truffle dog parade.
In Motovun-Montona you can see an exhibition of Istrian wine Teran, truffles and the election of the biggest truffle at the Trg Andrea Antico, on November 11, 2013.
