Northern Crete is bracing for intense winds starting from Saturday afternoon, November 23, lasting until Sunday evening, November 24. Winds of 7 to 8 Beaufort will dominate from midday and could strengthen to 9 Beaufort during the night. These conditions will peak around midnight.
Certain areas, especially near Akrotiri, Vouxa, Spatha, and Sideros, will face gusts reaching 9 to 10 Beaufort. Similar intensities are expected in mountainous and rugged terrains.
Extra caution is urged in southern-facing valleys, gorges, and coastal regions. Gusts here could reach levels of a strong storm, between 10 and 11 Beaufort, potentially climbing to an alarming 12 Beaufort overnight. Such conditions make these locations hazardous, with risks of substantial damage.
Sunday morning will show signs of gradual wind reduction, becoming more noticeable by the late afternoon.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid risky coastal areas and ensure personal safety during these hours.
