A significant change in weather is expected from Friday, November 28, lasting for 48 hours, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
Crete will face:
- Heavy rainfall
- Thunderstorms
- Local hail
- Snow in the northern highlands
The first impacts will appear in Western Crete, then move south and east, affecting South–Central Crete and the Messara region.
Conditions may worsen overnight into Saturday.
Irish Crossings to Close Preventively
If rainfall continues for long periods, the following Geropotamos Irish crossings will close for safety:
- Perio
- Tria Asteria
- Agia Triada
The Municipality of Phaistos urges residents not to attempt crossing these locations when they are closed.

Before and During Heavy Rain
- Avoid farm work and outdoor tasks.
- Move vehicles away from streams, riverbeds, or flood-prone roads.
- Limit travel to essential needs only.

- Secure doors, windows, and outdoor items.
- If driving during a storm, stop in a safe place and keep hazard lights on.
- Check on elderly people, children, and people with disabilities.
If Flooding Occurs
- Move immediately to higher ground.
- Leave basements without delay.
- Turn off the main electricity switch and any gas supply.
- Stay away from floodwaters, streams, and exposed power lines.
