Cleanup and maintenance works have started in Amoudara, the long coastal stretch west of Heraklion and one of the region’s busiest tourist areas, as the Municipality of Malevizi moves to improve the appearance of the main road ahead of the 2026 tourist season.
Municipal crews have already begun operations in Linoperamata and will continue toward Xeropotamos, covering the entire length of the central coastal road, to present a cleaner, more organised image ahead of the first arrivals of spring and early-summer visitors.

Interventions in Amoudara’s Tourist Zone
The intervention focuses on the wider area along Andrea Papandreou Avenue, the main artery of Amoudara’s tourist zone, where most hotels, apartments, beach bars, and rental businesses operate during the season.
According to the municipality, the works include tree pruning, vegetation clearing, cleaning of public spaces, sidewalk washing, and general maintenance intended to improve safety and appearance in one of the most heavily used coastal corridors near Heraklion.
The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Deputy Mayors for Green Spaces, Fanis Kokkinakis, and Daily Operations, Manolis Vistis. Local community representatives were also present during the first phase of the works in Linoperamata.

New Road Markings and Pre-season Cleanup
In a second phase, new road markings are expected to be added at pedestrian crossings along the avenue, a small but necessary upgrade in an area where traffic, tourists, buses, and rental cars tend to mix, making road safety more of a hope than a certainty during peak season.
For Amoudara, these pre-season cleanups have become part of the yearly routine, as the area serves as the closest beach zone to Heraklion and one of the first places visitors see after leaving the city.
When the road looks good, the whole destination looks better. When it does not, everyone notices.
With the new tourist season approaching, the municipality appears determined to ensure that, at least this year, the first impression along the coastal road is the right one.
