- Paros Airport’s expansion promises better infrastructure for travel
- The project will significantly increase the terminal size and runway capacity
- Initial phases of the upgrade will be completed by 2026, boosting regional tourism and connectivity
Paros Airport’s (IATA: PAS, ICAO: LGPA) ongoing improvements and expansion efforts are set to significantly enhance tourist activity and infrastructure. Overseen by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, these projects are poised to offer new facilities benefiting travellers.
Key elements of the 41-million-euro project include:
- Construction of a new 12,500 sq.m. terminal and environmental upgrades
- Installation of a state-of-the-art control tower
- Development of a modern fire station
- Extension of the runway to a total of 1,800 meters with updated lighting
- Additional aircraft parking with four new jet spaces and corresponding lighting works
- Creation of a 550-space car park, inclusive of special areas for buses, disabled access, and electric vehicle charging
- Implementation of a cutting-edge wastewater treatment facility
- Addition of a hydrocarbon separator for environmental protection
- Integration of a 100 Kwp solar photovoltaic system with a connection to the main power grid
Enhanced Infrastructure and Visitor Experience
The terminal’s modern design positions Paros as a premier destination, enhancing the travel experience with top-tier infrastructure. Upon project completion, the terminal will expand to 17 times its current size from 745 sq.m. The phased airport handover to the CAA is anticipated to begin by summer 2026. Additionally, the runway’s extension from 1,400m to 1,800m will accommodate larger aircraft and increase parking capacity for planes and helicopters. Importantly, this extensive transformation does not disrupt ongoing flight operations.
In 2023, Paros Airport processed 331,852 passengers and recorded 6,781 aircraft movements. Predictions for 2024 suggest a 12% rise in passenger numbers.
