On June 7 at 9 AM, HiSky Europe’s flight number H4101 embarked on a historic journey from Bucharest’s “Henri Coandă” International Airport (IATA: OTP, ICAO: LROP) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (IATA: JFK, ICAO: KJFK). This marked the first direct transatlantic flight from Romania in over 20 years, a significant milestone in the country’s aviation history. The Airbus A330, registered as YR-KID, touched down at JFK Airport at 11:35 AM local time, completing the journey in roughly 10 hours.
HiSky Europe, the first private Romanian airline to offer scheduled flights to the United States, is now making travel easier. With regular flights from Henri Coandă Airport to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport operating four times a week, departing Romania on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, planning your trip has never been more convenient. The return flights from JFK will take off at 1:25 PM local time, landing in Bucharest at 6:15 AM the next day.
Starting June, New York will once again be listed on Otopeni Airport’s Departures-Arrivals board. This is a significant milestone for HiSky and even more so for Romania and all passengers wishing to travel across the ocean without stopovers or time wasted at other airports. The USA is now a viable travel option for the first time since air travel became accessible to everyone.

The Airbus A330-200, the first of its kind registered in Romania, is a testament to HiSky’s commitment to quality and innovation. This aircraft, which joined the fleet last December, boasts an autonomy exceeding 14 hours and a cruising speed of 870 km/h. It features a two-aisle configuration with 275 seats, offering both business and economy class options, and is powered by two Rolls Royce Trent 772B engines, known for their reliability and efficiency.
HiSky Europe has rapidly become a key player in the Romanian aviation industry. As of 2023, it is the country’s second-largest airline by passenger numbers and the fourth most significant operator at Romanian airports. While Bucharest serves as its main operational base, HiSky also operates regular flights from Iași, Baia Mare, Cluj Napoca, Timișoara, and Chișinău, along with charter services in collaboration with major travel agencies. This expansion demonstrates HiSky’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and accessible air travel network for Romania.
The newly established Bucharest-New York route connects the two major cities and offers convenience for Cluj-Napoca and Chișinău passengers. Thanks to a streamlined booking system, travellers can now enjoy direct flights with a 1-hour and 10-minute connection at Bucharest airport, making their journey smoother and more efficient.
