For travelers considering a Black Sea vacation this Summer, news that Bulgaria’s new Black airport in the northeastern town of Balchik is to open should come as a pleasant surprise. According to the news, the new facility will welcome its first passengers once its conversion from a military to a civilian facility is complete.
Krasimir Kostov, Chief of the latest Bulgarian airport, told reporters of the airport’s scheduled reception of a Prague flght today. Transferred last September from military to civil control by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers, the facility becomes the third International airport on the Black Sea behind Varna and Burgas Airports.
Of note to travelers, the area around Balchik boasts three champion ship golf courses – the Black Sea Rama, Lighthouse Golf Resort and Thracian Cliffs. Also within a stone’s throw of Balchik Airport, are Balchik Palace and many other historic, entertainment, and hospitality venues to enjoy. What was a Thracian settlement, is now a thriving Black Sea resort town.
Lastly, the new airport is scheduled to host and International aviation festival later on this year as a promotional event. For more information about Balchik, the reader should visit the website dedicated to the city here, or their Facebook profile here.
