Christmas and the New Year are perfect occasions to go to a new place, to find a special destination to have a great time. When it comes to Romanians’ preferences this year, their top favourite destinations are Rome, Vienna, and Paris as research conducted by booking site vola.ro revealed, quoted by Jurnalul.ro.
Other cities that cited as great destinations for winter holidays are Lisbon, Dubai, Prague, Milan, and Berlin. In other words, Europe is a winner when it comes to Romanian people choosing a destination, mainly due to its large offer of travel packages at affordable prices, but also due to a relative short time to reach the destinations.
The general profile of a Romanian traveler choosing to welcome the New Year’s in a foreign destination shows a young person – aged between 27 and 37, with an average and above average income. According to the profile, such travelers prefer short trips to big European cities, trying to squeeze the celebration in the little free time they get for the holidays.
“Rome leads in preferences because it is a cheap destination, with both low cost flights and affordable booking rates charged by hotels. Vienna is preferred for the city itself, as well as for the sales available in various shops in that period. Paris is at the top any time of year, and Istanbul is a pretty cheap destination. A new destination for 2013 is Dubai,” states the press release from vola.ro.
According to the same research, the average stay for a New Year’s vacation is of four nights at 450 euro / person / stay. Daniel Truică, managing partner and founder of vola.ro, considers that Romanians will see an increase in numbers of foreign destinations for the holidays, as the prices are really low – sometimes comparable to prices practiced by Romanian mountain resorts. Plus, more and more people will choose short vacations and city breaks, as these don’t involve leaving the job too much and the total price will not hurt the tourists’ overall budget.
