Visitors to Moscow and the Bolshoi got a rare treat on Tuesday when the premiere of the Opera Gaetano Donizetti “don Pasquale” directed by Timofey kulyabin was held at the New Bolshoi theatre. Not since 1872 has this opera been staged at the illustrious theater.

Opened last week by President Vladimir Putin at a star studded gala, the new building of the theater is considered by many a symbol of Russia’s re-emergence as a cultural and economic giant. Under the personal patronage of Putin, the Imperial wealth of Russia is somehow rejuvenated.

Coming to Tallinn in August, the Birgitta Festival 2013 is a combination of modern musical theater and dark and foreboding medieval customs. Scheduled to begin August 9th through 18th at St. Bridget’s Convent in Tallinn, this year’s festival presents a program of rich musical entertainment from Faust to Sleeping Beauty.
