We moved to Crete for good in the Summer of 2017. The reasons for an American and a Romanian to venture far afield from America or our previous home in central Europe are manifold, but a 2014 visit played a major role.
It’s been three years now since my lifelong friend Johnny Courson told me about his illness during a getaway on Crete. It’s been two years since he and the other members of our tight group, Jay Thomas and Mike Parish celebrated a one year anniversary of our Crete adventure, and since we learned of Johnny’s chemotherapy battle. And about one year ago we all learned Johnny left the world the way he found it – better off for fascinating and luminescent people like him.
For those out there headed to Crete, driving the countryside is one of the great treats of this marvelous island destination. What’s more, navigating the well maintained Crete roads is a welcome adventure with mountain goats and sheep a plenty to keep visitors company. One such “discovery path”, the road to famous Elaphonisi Beach, is the spotlight of Argo today.
We love images, and especially those of places we love to visit most. To share a bit of photographic love of Crete, Greece with you, here’s a selection of images from Flickr users we love. Enjoy the Island famous for Filoxenia.
