With apps rapidly coming on as contenders for digital travel booking dominance, popular hotel booking app HotelTonight has just announced launching in Germany and Switzerland.
Already covering 80 destinations, and with some 4 million downloads, the app launched back in 2011 has become a “go to” tool for people looking for last-minute bookings. According to the release, the HotelTonight is offering Berlin, Munich, Zurich and Geneva, but Hamburg is planned to be released soon as well.
Sam Shank, Co-Founder and CEO, HotelTonight, offered this statement about his company’s latest expansion:
“Mobile technology has revolutionized the way we plan our lives, totally shifting our mindset and approach to travel. We are no longer tied to pre-planned itineraries, but empowered to make spontaneous decisions about where to go and for how long. HotelTonight was the first to respond to this rapidly growing market, shaping last-minute travel initially in North America and now globally. We couldn’t be more excited about the quality of our European hotel partners and the value that they’ll provide at the last minute.”
As we’ve reported many times, the migration to mobile applications by travelers is really a foregone conclusion. After all, who needs mobility more than the mobile? With HotelTonight, to be honest as an expert in such developments, the developers have fairly well sucker punched most other travel booking players out there. I cannot disclose yet our own developmental moves toward the mobile space, but suffice it to say HotelTonight is very advanced in several spheres. More now on Germany, but know we’ll be testing this app much more extensively for you later.
As for Germany and bookings for now, like many such booking tools gaining inventory is always a rub. I loaded HotelTonight onto my iPad, finding it superbly designed, fun and useful, the lack of hotel inventory will be a setback at the onset for Co-Founders Sam Shank, Jared Simon, and Chris Bailey. As for other negatives? Let’s wait and see about a more in depth and real travel test. For now this tool beats any I personally have used, and I don’t say so lightly.
The screenshot at bottom is one from the team at HotelTonight, but I found my own iPad look to be identical.
