The third largest city in Croatia, and its main seaport, Rijeka is also one of the most popular touristic destinations in the country. One of the main reasons travelers come here is the breathtaking bay of Rijeka, which gets streaked with a myriad of white sails every summer, when yachtsmen from across the world gather at the Great Fiumanka regatta. This year, the regatta will take place from June 9-12, 2011, and will follow the route between Rijeka to Omišalj and back.

The regatta starts June 9, and at 12:00 hours in Zadar, whit the Liburnijska race on the Zadar – Rijeka route, which also connects the two cities, renewing the story of Liburnii, people from the sea. This introduces the great finale on June 10, of the Rotary Fiumanka (sailing for humanitarian purposes) and the Press Fiumanka cup.

The race ends on Saturday June 11, 2011, with more than 200 boats lining up in front of the Rijeka breakwater. Sports sailors will be following the traditional Rijeka-Omišalj-Rijeka route, while family sailors will be seen on the Rijeka-Žurkovo-Rijeka route. As every year, all the Fiumanka sailors, Rijeka and their guests will enjoy two days of partying on the pier and terminal Carolina Rijeka (Gatu Karoline Riječke i Terminalu).
