Nea Chora will once again welcome one of Chania’s best-loved summer food celebrations, with the Pyrofaneia 2026 Sardine Festival taking place Monday, September 7, at 8 pm.
The annual celebration returns to the small harbor of Nea Chora for its 31st year, inviting locals and visitors to enjoy an evening of grilled sardines, music and traditional dancing along Akti Papanikoli.
Grills will be set up along the waterfront, while the evening’s entertainment will include the A Cappella Choir of Agia Aikaterini Parish, the musical group Notios Dromos and performances by traditional dance groups from Chania and Crete.
The festival highlights the food traditions and community spirit of Nea Chora, one of Chania’s historic seaside neighborhoods. It offers visitors a chance to experience a more local side of the city beyond its famous old harbor.
