The Greek Navy’s new frigate Kimon arrived at Souda Port in Chania today, drawing attention as one of the newest and most technologically advanced additions to the country’s fleet.
Its arrival was given a striking welcome by vessels already operating in the area, creating an impressive scene as the frigate entered the port.
Kimon is an FDI HN frigate, designed for a range of naval operations and equipped with advanced systems for air defense, surface warfare and anti-submarine operations.
One of its key systems is the Sea Fire radar, which provides wide-area surveillance and tracking capabilities and is designed to detect and follow airborne threats.
The frigate is also equipped with Aster 30 surface-to-air missiles, launched from A50 vertical launch systems.
Its weapons systems include Exocet MM40 Block 3C anti-ship missiles, while its anti-submarine capabilities include MU90 torpedoes.
The ship also carries RAM missiles, a 76mm Oto Melara naval gun, and two remotely operated 20mm Lionfish guns.

Its appearance at Souda adds another high-profile naval presence to one of Greece’s most strategically important ports, which hosts both Greek and allied maritime activity.
For Chania, meanwhile, the arrival offered residents and visitors an unusually close look at one of the newest warships in the Greek fleet.
