Fažana is busy all August, celebrating its rich legacy, culture, traditions and customs. If you want to experience Croatia first hand, this fishermen village is the ideal destination. There’s always something to do, and the friendly people here are ready to welcome guests like their own family.
Below, a list of events to enjoy this month:
Wednesday, August 3 2011, Fažana celebrates its craftsmen, and not only. The Hand Made Fair and Istra Gourmet evening at Fažana’s waterfront boasts a varied display of Istrian souvenirs and Istrian gourmet products. Craftsmen will be demonstrating the production of traditional fishing equipment, and folklore groups will perform a number of traditional dances.
The Hand Made Fair and Istra Gourmet fest will be followed on Sunday by the Pilchard Festival, beginning 16:00 local hours at Fažana’s waterfront. The festival is the symbol of Fažana’s fishermen festivals, a unique event blending harmoniously the past and present of the local fishing tradition.
Another Hand Made Fair and Istra Gourmet fest follows Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Valbandon’s beach.
You’ll have more Hand Made Fair and Istra Gourmet festivals on Wednesday, August 17; and Wednesday, August 24; all featuring production of traditional fishing equipment, folklore group performance, grilled pilchard and more.
Don’t miss the Ča ribari znaju “Things that fisherman know” on Sunday, August 14 – an fisherman’s festival that kicks off at 19:00 local hours, at Fažana’s waterfront.
On Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Valbandon’s beach you can witness a competition in preparing dishes in a traditional Istrian way, under a baking lid čripnja. To be proclaimed master of preparing dishes under the baking lid is recognition of true knowledge and skill – therefore you’ll see a number of established chefs competing for the title, cooking under the baking lid čripnja/peka everything from lamb to donkey, mushroom, octopus, ray, and different kinds of fish.
