According to Priceline.com reports, the best days to travel this Thanksgiving are 19 and 20 November, and 25 November, the very Thanksgiving Day 2011.
Priceline also offered additional tips to help its customers find cheaper airfare. The company suggested that travelers will find the most affordable seats departing early in the morning (5-7 a.m.) or late evening (after 8 p.m.). Mid-day (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) is a bit more expensive, but still reasonable. Most expensive are the peak business travel hours (8-10 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.). Another important tip: send the presents ahead, to save extra baggage fees.
Priceline.com reported that the national average for Thanksgiving airfares is $400, up 4% over last year; and that the national average for Christmas airfares is $475, up 1% over last year. But the company is predicting higher holiday airfares and more limited ticket availability for the 2011 holiday travel season, as many airlines cut back on flights earlier this year, and many travelers booked their Thanksgiving flights way in advance.
After Thanksgiving, the most important holiday is Christmas. Priceline revealed the best days to travel in December as well: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27 and 31.
