For your upcoming trip to Eastern Europe, Slovakia in particular, the Concours D´Elegance “Golden Ribbons” classic car show in Piešťany is a chance to kill two birds with one visit. Sponsored by the world famous Health Spa Piešťany, the show runs from June 2nd until June 5th. This is a rare opportunity for travelers to take in some of the world’s most famous autos, and visit one of the world’s greatest health resorts too.
For those unfamiliar with this spa, and the town surrounding it, the place’s geothermal healing effects are world renown. Piešťany’s sulfuric mud, in conjunction with nearby springs, affords unparalleled therapeutic opportunities. In fact, at least one spa here is noted for notable users such as; Ludwig van Beethoven, Wilhelm II of Germany, Karl I of Austria-Hungary, and Ferdinand I of Bulgaria – as you can tell, a royal experience is not unheard of here.
Beside the luxurious spoiling of the several spas of Piešťany, the area is also embued with historically rich attractions in abundance, and has achieved fame for its sports-mindedness. In short, Piešťany is a bit of an unsung paradise in the West of Slovakia. Perhaps one you never heard of? The hot springs and sulfuric waters imanating from Spa Island are sure to help you remember though.
From at least one perspective, an historical one, it seems improbable Piešťany could stay hidden from most of the world. The beauty and healthful wonder of this place predates most any other in Europe. As far back as 22,000 BC a rich culture has thrived here.
The Thermal Palace Hotel (below) is further revealed here. And you might also look at the Danubius Health Spa Resort Balnea Esplanade for superb accommodations at great rates (like € 52 per night).
The Danubius Hotel Group offerings and detailed information are largely contained in this PDF. For more information about the classic car show, visit the Piešťany Spa website. For information about the surrounding area and other Slovakia attractions, please visit the official tourism website here.
