An existing building in Diyarbakir, with a café famous among both locals and travelers, will be converted into a 161-room hotel, the first property of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in this city. Holiday Inn Diyarbakir – City Center shows the continuous expansion of the company that has, at the present moment, 15 hotels in Turkey and plans to add another 8 over the next three to five years.
“We’re very excited to be opening our first hotel in Diyarbakir which is a key city for our growth plans in Turkey. The Holiday Inn brand continues to gain momentum across Europe as owners are increasingly taking advantage of development opportunities in expanding business regions that lie beyond a country’s capital,” said Yalin Yaltirakli, IHG’s Development Director for Turkey.
The new hotel will provide its guests with various business and relaxation amenities such as a gym, spa, bar, restaurant, five meeting rooms on the mezzanine level, and a banqueting area on the roof terrace. Moreover, the hotel will feature the new open lobby concept, an open integrated space that includes the front desk, lounge area and business centre into a single area. The famous café already mentioned will be part of this open lobby.
The hotel is located near important tourist sights, in the center of the city. The City Hall and the Old Town are in walking distance. Diyarbakir is the administrative capital of the Diyarbakır Province and one of the largest cities in South Eastern Turkey.
The hotel will be built under a franchise agreement with BED Turizm Company and coordinated by POYA Hotel Project Management Company.
“We are delighted to be working with IHG to open this great hotel in Diyarbakir. The location is already a focal point in the city and this hotel will truly be a hub for business and leisure travellers alike,” stated Şaban Üge, Chairman of BED Turizm.
