Bulgaria is refusing to let up as it bids to reinvent itself as Eastern Europe’s most attractive destination for people from all walks of life, announcing five new tour packages orientated towards gay travelers.
Already a popular for families and couples on romantic long weekend breaks, Bulgaria now has its sights set on becoming one of Eastern Europe’s most gay-friendly destinations too.
Community website Gayopolis.com reports that a new organization called Gay Holidays in Bulgaria has established a range of travel itineraries for gay travelers, including city breaks in the capital Sofia, winter holidays, adventure holidays and culture tours. The packages include a guided tour of some of Sofia’s most renowned gay and lesbian nightclubs, visits to the famous Pancharevo Baths spa, skiing trips, and of course, the chance to mix with some of Bulgaria’s friendly guys.
According to Gayopolis, Bulgaria is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations in Eastern Europe for gay travelers due to its long-standing tolerant attitude towards sexual openness. Many Bulgarian celebrities are openly gay, while the country has many gay-orientated venues. The nation has made huge strides since it first opened up as a fledgling tourist destination in the mid-1990s, and since its entry into the EU in 2007 development has progressed at a furious pace. As such, today’s Bulgaria boasts dozens of top beach resorts along the Black Sea coast, plus a mix of vibrant cities and word class winter resorts.
