A road accident involving a van-type vehicle was reported on the road from Viannos toward Heraklion, shortly after the Mesi junction.
Local reports say the area is known for frequent rockfalls, and the latest incident has prompted another warning to drivers using the route.
Driver Reportedly Slightly Injured
Initial information indicates that the driver suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance from the Viannos Health Center to the hospital on duty in Heraklion.
The vehicle sustained material damage.
Rockfalls and Slippery Road Being Considered
A preliminary assessment mentioned falling rocks from the roadside slope and increased slipperiness of the road surface as possible contributing factors.
These have not been established as the confirmed causes of the accident.
Drivers using the route between Viannos and Heraklion should therefore take extra care, particularly in areas where rockfalls are known to occur and when the road surface is wet.
