For those Baby Boomers (or any generation) out there who remember playing Led Zepplin’s Stairway to Heaven on the guitar, without a guitar, the “Air Guitar World Championships” in Oula, Finland should be on your bucket list.
Starting August 27th and lasting through the 30th, this yearly event has grown exponentially since it’s inception back in 1996. First held at the Oulu Music Video Festival, the event is now an international festival to promote world peace. The event has become so notorious, it’s actually created 20 other offshoot events around the world.
The festival is open to anyone who wants to participate, entrants just need to fill out an entry form on the fest’s website. Additionally, entrants need to send in a one minute clip of the song to be performed. And if you don’t play the air guitar, there’s workshops to help you perfect your air guitar techniques too. For those of you interested in learning more, here’s the Facebook profile of the fest.
