Greece’s tourism leaders are working to attract a larger number of travelers from India after the peaking of interest of Indian travelers in the Hellenic Republic.
Greece’s Tourism Ministry said recently, that right after the United States, Indian travelers have shown much higher interest in visiting the Hellenic Republic. SchengenVisaInfo.com reported this trend recently, this seems to be the reason why the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias urged the immediate reinforcement of the Greek Embassy in New Delhi as well as the Consular Office.
According to the news, once Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias sounded the call for the easing of visa red tape, the MFA acted to try and take advantage of the biggest spending demographic among world travelers. Tourists from India typically spend more on their holidays, than their contemporaries. A recent World Tourism Organization study showed that Indian travelers spend 4 times more than either Japanese or Chinese tourists, and a whopping 140% more than UK vacationers. The average Indian holidaymakers even spend more than their American counterparts (71% more).
Gastronomy, luxury tourism, culture, and touring are among the products that attract Tourists from India most when planning to visit the Hellenic Republic. Minister Kikilias was cited by Schengen Visa saying:
“First we attract high spenders’ travellers, second, we extend our tourist season and third we ‘illuminate’ other, alternative destinations of our country, which until today were not very prominent.”
Greece is one of the leading European countries to have managed to welcome a large number of visitors from other countries, despite the difficulties caused by the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
