The Municipality of Viannos, in cooperation with the association “Cretaweather.gr – Keron Krites” (Cretan Weather People), installed a new weather station equipped with a camera in the village of Sykologos today. The installation is part of the municipal authority’s ongoing effort to continuously strengthen its meteorological monitoring network, with a view to prevention, public safety, and better service for residents.
With this latest addition, the Municipality of Viannos now operates a substantial network for monitoring weather data across its entire territory.
The monitoring network now includes stations at the following settlements and locations: Viannos Town Hall – Ano Viannos, Martha, Kastri, Arvi, Sykologos, Kato Symi, Emparos, Amiras, Chondros, and Psari Forada.
“Weather stations are a valuable ally not only for the municipal authority but also for citizens. We are harnessing technology for the benefit of the local community, providing reliable data that can prove useful both to Civil Protection and to the primary sector, where weather conditions directly affect production activity,” Mayor of Viannos Pavlos Baritakis said in a statement.
“As a municipal authority, we continue to invest in infrastructure and partnerships that leverage innovation, strengthen prevention, and offer practical tools to residents and municipal services, with the goal of a safer, more modern, and more effective municipality,” he added.
