If your Winter is working out anything like ours here in Germany, it’s about time for a more tropical outlook. Using Atlanta, Georgia as an example starting point, just consider what 19°F with a 23 mph wind will feel like tomorrow morning. Without spending a king’s ransom, next weekend you and a co-conspirator could be warm and toasty, having fun in Freeport in the Bahamas.
Okay, now that you “bit” on this tropical getaway idea, the extended forecast for Freeport calls for highs of 70°F, and lows in the mid 50’s. If that is not enough incentive, consider Grand Bahama Island, with all her charms. From Deadman’s Reef and Lucaya Beach, to Freeport’s or the Port Lucaya Marketplace, spending a weekend in the Bahamas is a far cry from the chill grayness of Wintertime Atlanta.
We tracked down some quick rates for the weekend beginning Friday, February 24 for you. First, using Orbitz to grab a quick and easy flight, the top selection shows an 8:05 Am flight departing Atlanta and ending in Freeport at just before 4 PM, with one stopover in Miami. Two persons for $578 per person is not all too bad on short notice.
Next we investigate reasonable rooms and find Castaways Resort and Suites a stone’s throw from the airport, the town center, and beaches. A king here will only set our happy couple back about $543 for the duration, a lot less with applicable discounts like AARP end etc.
Better still, if being right on the beach appeals to your getaway senses, Sunrise Resort and Marina (image below) offers the same king room for about $100 less total. Either hotel is just a walk or bike ride away from authentic Bahamian cuisine, great bars, the joy of Island life, and of course the modern conveniences any resort offers. As a comparative or alternative accommodation, the Dundee Bay Villas is a choice at $139 per night, as is Flamingo Bay Hotel and Marina where a current special via Booking.com offers 3 nights for $225 total.
A bit of searching for special packages might afford anyone desiring such a getaway a bit more value, but the whole point is, getting the heck out of Atlanta (or any place cold as the North Pole) for a few days. So, for under $2000, on the virtual spur of the moment here, you can thaw out and get a tan too in the Bahamas.
To find more interesting, and more importantly “warm” getaways you might try finding hotels via the Magnuson Hotels site, then hitting cheaptickets or Orbitz for the best flight deals. For Freeport tours and diving & etc., BestOnBahamas has some super deals you should hook up with. Aquasports is another good choice as well, for those into water sports in the warm Caribbean.
