The Port Authority has announced a comprehensive stop-and-parking ban along the town’s central waterfront and around the historic Venetian Fortress of Kales to accommodate upcoming World Tourism Day 2026 celebrations.
Starting at 06:00 on Saturday, September 26, all unauthorized vehicles will be barred from parking along the harbor land zone and the coastal stretch extending to the fishing shelter’s washing ramp. The temporary clearance is necessary to safely set up stages, equipment, and visitor facilities for the weekend’s public events, which run through Sunday, September 27.
The restrictions will stay in place until crews finish dismantling all temporary infrastructure. Officials noted that only vehicles with explicit permits from the Ierapetra Port Authority are exempt, and parking violations are subject to penalties under maritime legislation.
