Chania hotel workers can get help with DYPA registration and unemployment benefit applications starting October 19.
- The service will operate Monday to Friday, 5 pm–8 pm, at the Chania Hotel Workers’ Union offices.
- Appointments must be made by phone.
- Workers have 60 days from the date of dismissal to submit their unemployment benefit application.
Seasonal Workers Get a Hand With the Paperwork
For hotel workers finishing another tourist season in Chania, the end of the season comes with one particularly unpleasant task: paperwork.
The Chania Hotel Workers’ Union says members can get help with their electronic registration with DYPA, Greece’s public employment service, and with the unemployment benefit application process.
The service begins Monday, October 19, and will be available daily from 5 pm to 8 pm at the union’s offices inside the Chania Labor Center at 68 Markou Botsari Street.
Appointments are required and can be arranged by calling 6942896096.
What Workers Need to Bring
Workers will need:
- TAXISnet credentials
- Proof of insurance contributions for the previous two months
- An IBAN account in the beneficiary’s name
- Email address and mobile phone number
- The spouse’s AFM and AMKA
- AMKA numbers for dependent children, where applicable
Workers applying for unemployment benefits for the first time will also need proof of residence, such as a utility bill showing their address, along with their identity card.
Don’t Miss the Deadline
The union reminds workers that they have 60 days from the date of dismissal to submit an unemployment benefit application.
So this is one piece of Greek bureaucracy where waiting until “I’ll deal with it later” is a particularly bad strategy.
Season ends. Paperwork begins. Welcome to October in Chania.
