With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the general attention falls on less popular destinations, those places which by definition are welcoming, romantic and serene. For the second year in a row, Alexandria, the jewel on the Western bank of the Potomac, has been ranked as the most romantic city in the U.S. by Amazon.com. The ranking compiles sales data of romance novels and relationship books, romantic comedy movies
, Barry White
albums, along with sexual wellness products.
But we didn’t really need data from Amazon to know that Alexandria knows how to keep romance alive. The city was rated “Best Place for a First Date” by both the Washingtonian Magazine and the Washington Post. Founded in 1749, Alexandria still celebrates a rich heritage. George Washington’s hometown, with its colonial charm, the city welcomes lovers this year with restaurants ideal for candlelit gourmet dinners, one-of-a-kind shops to find perfect Valentine’s Day gift, and gorgeous romantic getaways.
Many hotels in the city offer Valentine’s Day packages, romantic suits where you can spoil your Valentine with themed dinner and breakfast. For instance, at Morrison House you begin Valentine’s Day celebration in the evening with a bottle of Prosecco and accompaniment of strawberries, and wake up with breakfast in bed and be lazy with a late checkout.
