Airbnb and Russia’s Ostrovok Tie Travel Knot

Airbnb has just announced having ventured into the Russian tourist market via a partnership with online accommodation service Ostrovok. For Russians bent on finding the best places to vacation, this deal is pretty massive.

According to the press, Airbnb properties can now be booked by Ostrovok users, the company’s first time for this sort of international collaboration. The moved, billed as an expansion of the user base of Airbnb, gives the Silicon Valley startup vastly extended reach across Russia and the region. For Ostrovok, the value is obvious in that the thousands of Russians using that product now have unfettered access to hundreds of thousands of properties and deals.

The Moscow startup has in excess of 900,000 properties listed already, so the Airbnb deal adds massive inventory and value for Russian travelers. Airbnb claims to have served more than 17 million guests these last 6 years. Of interest to all who are in the hospitality business should be the fact revealed in a 2013 PhoCusWright, Russian market study. According to that report Russian tourist reliance on the  Internet increased by 49 percent to 10.4 billion dollars.
