Surf & Dive Startup Sportbay Launches Affiliate Win

You know it is not Winter everywhere. Even if it were, cold wind and water does not often deter surfers and kiteboard enthusiasts, let alone divers. Surfer dudes and dudettes they seek the surf and sun no matter what. Argo discovers a little surf and dive gem you may need to know about.

News from Sportbay Sport Travel today tells of the company launching their affiliate program in February, enabling travel agencies and websites to connect the dots between the sports men and women, and the places they most want to travel to.

This startup form here in Germany lunched last year with the idea of letting the sport’s faithful to book live via online platform. Offering some 1500 plus special deals, Sportbay Sport Travel sells customers everything from individual lessons to complete vacation packages. What’s as significant for me as a travel startup consult, is the value the developers have put on the site for potential clients to use.

Now, affiliates can get in on the savings and the monetization by partnering with the company to spread the news. Affiliates can link to the website using their affiliate-ID to get commissions, and get commissions on ancillary items as well as the bookings. The service also offers printable coupons for surf shops, to further extend the marketing reach. Sportbay Sport Travel says they offer trips to some 30 or more countries where surf and dive enthusiast attractions exist.

Interestingly, visiting the site I was immediately engaged in chat with Susi, one of their representatives, who was super nice. As a brief test of the site’s value, I immediately drilled down to this shallow kiteboarding lagoon in El Gouna (image above) where lots of details and imagery led to an Egyptian vacation to dream about a bit. Constant wind and a wonderful surf, mixed with a range of services and choices, looks pretty tempting, particularly if you plan on seeing more of Egypt.

Find out about wind, weather, best times, services, and all associated info, just by scrolling and clicking All in all, not a bad user experience for the would be surfer traveler, of course any site can be better. For the final take, a two click look at availability and pricing for a full 8 day week plus equipment was €295 – a great deal, but of course a bit of “apples versus oranges” without a comparative. I mentioned as much to Susi, to which she agreed.

The Founders of Sportbay Sport Travel, Alexander Rübsaamen & Richard Hector (Master of Finance and Deloitte consultant), hail from Hamburg these days, though clearly they are no strangers to grabbing air either via kiteboarding or surfing. We did not have time to chat with them for this report, but will attempt to find out more about their plans in a future post. The bottom line being, niche travel platforms such as this one, have great potential for snatching revenue in the coming landscape. At least this is my view.
