Localeur – The Latest Shot At Nearby Travel Recommendations

With localized information and services finally coming to the forefront, Austin, Texas gets a brand new travel startup named Localeur that takes aim at Milennial travelers. The local recommendation service is powered by insiders on the ground, according to the news.

The best places for lots of stuff, including making out in public

While human powered recommendation engines are no big secret, no developer has yet capitalized on the potential so many saw for recommendation and distribution engines. The personalized way in which great advice can be leveraged is something of a “Holy Grail” for anyone who can scale and monetize same. I remember Jimmy Wales’ Wikia Search being a contender with Google even from back when, but there too scaling and manpower were part of the rub against all human powered wonders. As for Localeur? The video below narrated by CEO Joah Spearman is a good place to start thinking about how local can be a powerful trend in the future.

As for the reality of Localeur’s opinions etc., clearly their user interface and methodology are prettier than TripAdvisor, even more local by “feel”, but for the recommendations I have looked at so far, more rich media that leads to the “realness” the founders speak of, this is what the development needs. There is a lot to be said for semi-professional localized reviews on the bright side here.

I did not have time for an in depth review today of this interesting startup, but we will delve deeper into what they have doing on. Just for a funny slash novel thing about Localeur, the developers have tapped into a hidden well spring with their categorization of some spots as “Best Places to Make Out With A Stranger” – and some others. If nothing else, Localeur is different and possessive of great potential. Now for that scaling.
