Coming up July 20th through the 24th, the Amari Green Festival 2019 is one of Crete’s major cultural events in the heart of the island. The Amari Valley, where ancient civilizations made their mark over millennia, will be the site of the Asomaton School at the Panakron Estate near Monastiraki.

Organized by the Municipality of Amari, the Amari Public Benefit Corporation, the Art & Culture Society, Idaem, and with the support of the Region of Crete, the Rethymno Region, the Chamber of Rethymno Amari, this year’s Amari Green Festival promises to be a memorable event for all. The strategic objectives and theme this year will be:

  • The protection, promotion, and utilization of local cultural features, history and human potential.
  • The cultural connection of the region with other places, countries, and cultures.
  • Entrepreneurship – Employment and opportunities.
  • The promotion of the Agricultural School of Asomata at a node of knowledge in the fields of sustainable livestock farming and agriculture.
  • The employment of young people in traditional activities and modern ventures in the field of tourism, culture and education.
  • Linking local features and initiatives through cultural associations.

Other highlights this year include workshops like July 21st conference one entitled “The Alternative Forms of Tourism, the Future of Amari Development” with Dr. I. Kritsotaki, who is a professor at the Vienna University of Economics, specializing in Communication and Export Marketing.

The villages of Meronas, Apodoulou, Petrochori, Fourfouras, and Nefs Amari are the hosts for this fascinating rural festival, which shares the local culinary and folk art traditions at the height of summer.

As in past years, The Amari Green Festival is a celebration of nature, culture, history, music, folk tradition and gastronomy created to inform and to connect people from the region of Crete with guests from all over the world.
