Celebrity Edge Superliner Visits Aegean Ports of Call

Celebrity Edge's "Magic Carpet" experience - Celebrity Cruise Lines

The new luxury cruise ship named ‘Celebrity Edge’ is sailing the Aegean for as part of an 11-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise package which includes the Greek ports of Pireaus, Santorini, Mykonos, Nafplio, and Ketakolo. Voted the “best new cruise ship in the world” the 130,818 gross ton super-liner was also named “coolest cruise ship” by Forbes Magazine.

The Celebrity Edge is the first of a series of new generation cruise ships commissioned by Celebrity Cruises, which was established in 1988 by the Greece-based Chandris Group. Now part of the Royal Carribean fleet, the ship was built by STX France at an estimated cost of $1 billion, or almost double what Celebrity Silhouette cost when launched back in 2011. The Instagram below is from Celebrity’s social media account revealing Celebrity Edge sailing off Nafplio Greece 10 hours before this report.

The Aegean leg of Celebrity Edge’s voyage comes after visits to Rome, Sicily, and Malta, and before final portages in Naples and Capri. Celebrity Edge’s next cruise is a 10-night voyage to Italy, Spain, and Monaco that sets sail June 5th from Rome. I took the liberty of checking the cost of passage for a family of three. Inside staterooms for this voyage run $1,869 pp, with accommodations ranging all the way up to the Suites for $4,765 pp.

With a large occupancy and facilities including a tennis court, outdoor rooftop garden, open-air plunge pools, and 270-degree views, Celebrity Edge is what you might call “a cruise experience sailing a sea of experiences.” Homeported at Southampton, England, the ship will spend this summer cruising Europe and the Med.
