“Strengthening maritime tourism creates growth prospects with multiple benefits for the domestic economy not only through the upgrade of infrastructure and improved services but also by creating jobs.”

The tourism minister also addressed Greece’s competitiveness among EU nations as “critical,” and suggested that the taxing system being revised would raise the incentive with increased revenues as a goal. In his speech he also addressed environmental concerns and the need for infrastructure development.

In adjoining news, a 43-year concession agreement granting the Hersonissos Municipality on Crete the right to exploit and manage a marina in the area of Malia was approved by outgoing tourism minister Elena Kountoura some weeks ago.
