Zabljak – Montenegro’s Most Popular Ski Centre

Situated 1,456 meters above sea level, Zabljak is at the center of the Durmitor mountain range. The town is the highest in all the Balkans, and represents the choice destination for travelers seeking the best skiing and snowboarding in the region.

The natural beauty of the area attracts tourists and winter sports enthusiasts from around the world. Here there are a number of characteristics that make the place an ideal destination for winter sports. Most notable is the fact that this spot receives over 120 days of snow a year, creating a perfect ski paradise and a long season of the sport as well.

The ski facilities here are mostly concentrated in and around Zabljak. There are several natural skiing tracks in the town: Savin kuk, stretching 3,500 meter in length at the foot of Durmitor; Javorovaca is 400 m in length at the very entrance to Zabljak; and Stuoc is 1,780 meter in length and is situated at the Stuoc peak. Nordic skiing is the traditional form of here and includes sports derived from Scandinavian skiing. Alpine skiing is also popular and involves evolved methods of skiing and different bindings.

Zabljak is a desirable destination during the spring and summer months, as well, and the Durmitor mountain range features more than 1,500 different species of plants and flowers. Extreme sports lovers also visit Zabljak to experience rafting on the nearby Tara River. Year round, the Durmitor mountains provide excellent tourism opportunities for visitors to the area.
