Meeting of MP Nikos Egoumenidou and Heraklion Mayor Vassilis Labrino

MP Nikos Egoumenidou and Mayor Basil Labrino

Earlier today, the first meeting between Mayor of Heraklion Basil Labrino and MP SYRIZA Heraklion Nikos Egoumenidou since the mayor’s re-election. The officials met to discuss the future progress of an already approved €17.7 million euro project to revamp Heraklion’s water system.

According to an announcement by Dr. Egoumenidou’s press department, Nick Egoumenidou congratulated the Mayor on his re-election and stressed the urgent need for the important water project to go forward quickly.

The two discussed the Heraklion city water supply network, reiterating the fact it is one of the most important projects currently underway in Heraklion. Having already secured the funding by the Ministry of the Interior amounting to €15.2 million euros for supply networks, and an additional €2 million for flood preventative measures, the MP and the mayor mulled over the roadmap for carrying out the important project.

The project is the replacement – expansion of water supply networks in Koroni Magara, Ag. Catherine Republic Kipoupoli, New Bodrum and the western suburbs.

Heraklion has been plagued with water system insufficiencies for decades now. We reported on Mayor Labrino’s desperate appeal for funding last year. It’s great to see the work of officials and the public sector taking positive effect today. This is especially true since this year’s excessive rainfall and flooding in western Crete devastate some infrastructure and cost many citizens’ businesses inestimable revenue losses.
