Riga, as its proud inhabitants never tire of pointing out, is unique. Unique in its beauty, its history and its traditions, Riga celebrates its legacy in a number of ways every year. This time, Riga opens its heart for the arts: the 41st Traditional Applied Arts Fair will take place at the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum from Saturday June 4, to Sunday June 5, 2011.

An occasion for tourists to see the unique and the authentic arts and crafts of Latvia, the festival will welcome several thousands of craftsmen from all over the country: blacksmiths, basket-makers, weavers, potters, tailors, wood carvers and others. Visitors can buy original artifacts, end enjoy varied cultural programme for young and old.

Aside live demonstrations of arts and crafts, visitors also get the chance to sample traditional Latvian food, and local beverages. Even the younger visitors will enjoy this event, as special playgrounds will be welcoming them with traditional wooden toys, games, horseback riding and crafts workshops.
