Minoan Lines has christened its new cruise ferry, “Kydon Palace”, which will serve the Piraeus – Chania route, at a ceremony held recently at the port of Souda in Chania, Crete.
Chania, which was the ancient Minoan city of Kydonia, took its name from its founder Kydon, which the new ferry is named in honor of. Minoan Lines CEO Antonis Maniadakis had this to say during the event:
“Our company honors Chania and their history by dedicating this beautiful ship to this city, which – in my opinion, is the most beautiful in Greece.”
Also on hand at the Kydon Palace christening ceremony was Crete’s Vice Governor Nikolaos Kalogeris, who baptized the new ship and wished for “calm seas and fair winds”, while underlining the need to upgrade transportation services in Chania.
Kalogeris also wished for the new ship to contribute to the development and prosperity of the greater region. He also made mention of the significance of the government’s “transport equivalent” measure and asked for its implementation on Crete. The ceremony also included the new ship’s blessing by Metropolitan Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas.
The eco-friendly “Kydon Palace” is the newest, fastest luxury ferry on the Chania route, offering the highest level of onboard services, luxury, comfort and what the company terms “a unique travel experience to passengers.”
The ferry departs from Piraeus at 4 pm and returns from the port of Souda in Chania at 11.59 pm.
