Istanbul Voted European Best Destination

European Best Destination 2013 has named Istanbul, Turkey this year’s people’s choice winner. Istanbul is the fourth city to win the competition, and on the city’s first ever entry into the competition.

Billed as “the only city in the world to straddle two continents”, Istanbul has always been a city at the crossroads of not only EurAsia, but the culture and history of two massive continents. Following Istanbul in the voting were;  Lisbon in 2nd place and Vienna in 3rd. A not for profit events, European Best Destination is European Consumers Choice initiative that aims simply to promote Europe tourism.

This year thousands of people voted in a competition not spurred by advertising and where no personal data from voters is maintained. The fourth consecutive event, 2013 beat past records for numbers of voters, followers, videos viewed, and other categories.
