Greece and China Agree to Increase Flights & Connectivity

Great news for the travelers to Greece and China, the two countries have agreed to almost double the number of flights connecting the two countries. According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) there will now be 35 weekly flights instead of 14.

Deputy Infrastructure and Transport Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis and Feng Zhenglin, head of China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) signed the MoU, which covers the new route schedule, the destination points of each country, and the total number of flights.

The deal also foresees the right of four intermediate points and four points beyond, the possibility of charter flights, and gives allows airlines on both sides to operate common code flights on routes between the two countries.

Both Kefalogiannis and Zhenglin agreed to continue consultations towards the finalization of the new Air Services Agreement between the two countries. The next round of contacts is scheduled for January 2020 in Beijing.

Greece has already seen a huge increase in the number of Chinese tourists in 2019. According to the reports, China tourists flows are up 22 percent over 2018 figures. According to the figures, Chinese tourists select Greece for city break tourism, for weddings and honeymoons, and for luxury & culture tourism.

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis and Chinese Culture and Tourism Minister Luo Shugang have already discussed the issue of increasing connectivity between the two countries on the sidelines of the 5th China-Central Eastern European Countries [17+1] Ministerial Tourism Forum held in Riga, Latvia.
