Genfest Youth Festival Hits Budapest

Starting today Genfrest runs in Budapest through September 3rd. With the motto “Let’s bridge” Genfest is about unity between people, cultures, generations, families, and movements. Genfest is sheduled to link up live streaming from Budapest with 12,000 present in there “bridging” via digital connects with New Zealand, Indonesia and Sweden. among others later today.

Genfest originally sprung from the prophetic intuition of one Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement. Since 7 December 1943 when Silvia Lubich changed her name to Chiara in honour of Clare of Assisi, small communities around the world have striven to bring peace and harmony to the world. The Focolare Movement, fast forwarded to today and Budapest, and humane activities already in progress will be discussed in tune with speakers and celebrators events to take place these few days.

Activities and projects such as; “Project Africa” that have been supported for some decades, “Skip a meal” in Costa Rica to raise awareness and help for the famine in the Horn of Africa, “Good inside and out” in the prison of Milan, and other worthwhile initiatives are at the core of what this Genfest hopes to achieve.

Almost 13,000 delegates from over 100 countries, along with about 3,000 volunteers are expected at this year’s Genfest. With meetings and gatherings all about Budapest, including an appearance before Parliament, the festivities are scheduled to wind down with a talk led by Maria Voce, President of the Focolare Movement, on Universal Brotherhood, Launching of the “United World Project” and operation “Sharing with Africa”.
