Memorial Day Destination: Corpus Christi

Memorial Day is an opportunity for Americans to remember those who died on military service. The celebration also marks the start of the summer holiday season – which explains why so many hospitality businesses market their offers, special discounts, and deals so extensively sometimes weeks before the event. This Memorial Day weekend, Argophilia features a special place, home of the famous U.S.S. Lexington – Corpus Christi, Texas. This slice of paradise is now the largest coastal city in the state with plenty of activities to choose from.

The first thing to do to celebrate Memorial Day here is a tour of the U.S.S. Lexington, the most famous Aircraft Carrier in US Naval History. Recently, the museum added a new aircraft to their on-board collection – the famed Blue Angel No. 1 Boeing F/A‐18 Hornet. Visitors can also enjoy the only MEGA Theater on board an aircraft carrier and fly an F/A‐18 Hornet in their simulator.

Most of Corpus Christi‘s finest attractions are in a short walking distance from each other, as you can see in the map below. However, there are a few noteworthy venues that make this coastal town the ideal family destination this weekend and not only. The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center features more than 2,000 orchids and the largest Plumeria Garden in the United States. The Padre Island National Seashore is the longest stretch of primitive undeveloped ocean beach in the nation, while the Coastal Bend boasts an excellent trail system where nature lovers can enjoy various activities such as bird watching, hiking, biking and more.

From shaking fins with the bottlenose dolphins at the Texas State Aquarium, to catching a glimpse of the past and touring the replicas of the Christopher Columbus fleet at the Corpus Christi Museum of
Science & History, this town has a lot to offer to visitors from all over the world.

There are many activities for young and old in Corpus Christi: sailing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, touring, some 150 nature sites to explore, exceptional dining, professional sports, heritage, arts, entertainment offerings and so much more. For a romantic touch to the trip, reserve a horseback ride at sunset along the beach or head to a seashore restaurant for a sunset dinner.

Corpus Christi offers accommodation for every budget, from high-rated business hotels, to economy-class. One of the best business hotels, which also offers deals this summer, is Embassy Suites in the business district and close to La Palmera Mall and Sunrise Mall. The hotel is not far from attractions such as Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center and Corpus Christi Marina.
